Department Profile:
The Imaging department at Florida Hospital is integrally involved across the spectrum of patient care, assisting medical staff in the diagnosis and treatment of patients ranging from routine imaging studies to advanced interventional procedures. The department operates within the hospital. The Imaging team includes Radiologists, Technologists, Nurses, and support staff, working to ensure the patients receive appropriate, quality procedures and results at the right time.

Work Hours/Shifts:
Sat-Sun 6:30a – 11p, 1 weekday: 4 hour shift
Job Summary:
Under general supervision, is responsible for the Diagnostic XR workflow to assure efficient operation. Primary duties include leading and assisting XR technologists in imaging within the guidelines of Florida Hospital’s parameters, transmitting images for diagnostic interpretation and keeping the hospital’s computer system up to date with the progress of these exams. Fills in when necessary by performing imaging of Diagnostic XR exams following the Florida Hospital protocols. Oversees image quality by providing technical imaging support to staff and performs monthly Image QA audits. Utilizes the hospital performance improvement process in the goals of Imaging Services. Establishes and maintains ethical working relationships and good rapport with all referring physicians, hospital, and commercial agencies. Meets with customers and partners to assure service levels are maintained (Rounding). Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. Adheres to the Florida Hospital Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulation of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies.

Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:
  • Two years experience in hospital setting as a Registered Technologist
  • Knowledge of ER, OR and Fluoroscopic imaging procedures
  • Knowledge of Diagnostic Radiological Procedures/Positions
  • Ability to determine appropriate technical factors
  • Knowledge of Radiographic and Fluoroscopic equipment
  • Ability to learn and master new tasks related to Image Quality and Radiation Safety
  • Ability to communicate effectively, coordinate staff and work with people of various diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to multi-task under stress while dealing with large customer volumes
  • Good organizational and problem solving skills
  • E-mail and word processing skills such as Outlook and Microsoft programs, Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of PACS and associated equipment (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of Florida Hospital Protocols (Preferred)
  • Working knowledge of the Florida Hospital Computer system (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of Florida Hospital’s Image QA standards and policy (Preferred)
  • Good technical troubleshooting skills (Preferred)


Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:
  • Florida Department of Health – General Radiographer
  • ARRT ( R )
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification


Job Responsibilities:

  • Completes all exams in a timely manner, keeps work flow moving and minimizes empty table time. Researches patient chart prior to sending for patient to ensure exam is accurately ordered. Contacts the unit nurse or patient’s physician if order clarification or correction is required. (Personal Productivity and Accountability)

  • Assigns duties and reroutes staff to compensate for changes in patient volume and meal coverage (may be responsible for staff schedule). Monitors daily staff overtime, absenteeism, tardiness and time and attendance. May be responsible for material management processes, including ordering, stocking, and maintaining inventory for medical and pharmaceutical supplies required for the department. (Supervision)
  • Utilizes knowledge of a full range of imaging procedures and imaging equipment in assigned department. Utilizes the knowledge and skills for age-specific factors necessary to perform safe and effective procedures on patients of all ages. Learns/adapts to new technologies and protocols and help develop the knowledge and competency of technologists and students. May serve as clinical instructor to the X-Ray students. (Clinical Competence)
  • Assures Diagnostic Imaging equipment is available and in good working condition by troubleshooting and reporting findings through the hospital work order system. Operates and maintains Imaging equipment in a safe manner. Adheres to all infection control standards. Properly wears Dosimeter badge and seeks to minimize radiation exposure. Ensures the exam rooms are properly stocked, organized and clean. Employee job duties may include transport of pharmaceutical waste from the point of generation to a designated secure storage area. Employee will be required to complete initial training (prior to handling pharmaceutical waste) to include proper handling and transport of pharmaceutical waste, and proper selection, use and disposal of personal protective equipment.   • Reviews exam images, suggesting repeats as necessary for best possible result. Performs monthly Image QA and quarterly audits on the XR technologists. Provides feedback to manager for employee evaluations. (Image Quality and Documentation)
  • Utilizes computer system to update exam status, replace orders and troubleshoot exams as needed. Ensures charges match protocol and procedure completed. (Data Processing)
  • Utilizes understanding of the department performance trends and established standards to assist manager in meeting goals in regards to budget, exam timeliness and quality. Contributes towards process improvement by serving on PI teams as assigned. Participates in department Gallup and patient satisfaction initiatives. Utilizes patient service recovery resources when appropriate. Monitors turn-around-times for various sections and works to maintain standards. Completes assigned projects and duties on time and completely. (Performance Improvement)
  • Consistently attends department meetings or other mandatory meetings with positive attitude toward department and others. Helps organize department meetings. Listens and is responsible for knowing content. (Department Meeting Attendance)
  • May perform waived and/or non-waived Point of Care Testing. If performing non-waived Point of Care Testing, as defined in AHCA rule 59A-7.034, must have approved competency and documented proof (copy of either diploma or transcript, at the highest level of academic achievement) at the time of Florida Hospital non-waived Point of Care training.
