Located on a lush tropical campus, our flagship hospital, 1,107-bed Florida Hospital Orlando, serves as the major tertiary facility for much of the Southeast, the Caribbean and South America. Florida Hospital Orlando houses one of the largest Emergency Departments and largest cardiac catheterization labs in the country. We are already one of the busiest hospitals in the nation, providing service excellence to more than 32,000 inpatients and 125,000 outpatients each year.

Department Profile:



Florida Hospital Transplant Institute (FHTI) is located on the Orlando campus in the Medical Office Building on the corner of Orange Avenue and Rollins Street. All of the advanced care services, transplant programs, team members, and outpatient services are located here. FHTI provides our patients with exceptional, compassionate, and personalized care through all phases of organ disease and transplantation. Our care services include kidney, pancreas, liver, heart, and lung transplant; advanced Hepatology and heart failure; mechanical circulatory assist devices and hepatobiliary surgery. Care services are offered to achieve optimum patient satisfaction and outcomes through research, evidence based practice, and whole person care delivered by an experienced multidisciplinary team consisting of physicians, surgeons, transplant coordinators, nurses, financial counselors, pharmacists, dietitians, and social workers.

Days
Monday – Friday
8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Job Summary:



The Hepatologist is responsible for the assisting the Medical Director of Hepatology and Medical Director of Liver Transplantation with the implementation and monitoring of recipient program treatment protocols and optimizing medical treatment for all patients with advanced liver disease. In addition, this position requires on-going unification of the physician- patient referral network through communication, support, and intervention. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

Knowledge, Skills, Education & Experience Required:
  • Eligible to participate as a provider in the Medicare/Medicaid program(s)
  • Has a working knowledge in General Hepatology (Preferred)
  • Has a working knowledge in Transplant Hepatology (Preferred)
  • Able to work with a variety of individuals from different professional disciplines (Preferred)
  • Completed a fellowship in Hepatology (Preferred)


Licensure, Certification or Registration Required:


  • Credentialed by the American Board of Internal Medicine
  • Current, unrestricted license to practice in the State of Florida
  • An active staff member in good standing of the medical staff of Florida Hospital with all privileges and responsibilities accorded such membership (Preferred)
  • National Board of Medical Examiners credential for the State of Florida (Preferred)
  • Eligible to participate as provider in the Medicare/Medicaid Programs (Preferred)


Job Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate the processes and outcomes to enhance the delivery of excellent, cost-effective health care.
  • Demonstrates the ability to provide effective leadership with a primary focus on teamwork, maximizing deployment of personnel and departmental services in the delivery patient care while maintaining cost accountability.
  • Prescribe interventions and performs therapeutic measures to ensure the appropriate individualized plan of care is implemented. Apply knowledge of age-specific needs i.e.: adult and geriatric patients related to plan of care interventions and patients responses to care.
  • Participates, whenever needed, in medical rounds with surgeon, and pharmacist. Coordinate treatment plan with other caregivers.
  • Write and/or dictate progress notes, procedure notes, history and physical examination, transfers/discharge summaries in accordance with medical policies.
  • Work corroboratively with the Digestive Health Center, Gastroenterology Department, Residency and Fellowship Programs and the Cancer Institute in facilitating patient referrals and medical care.
  • Participate in clinical research
  • Participate in educating students, interns, residence and fellows
  • If in a clinical setting or have patient contact, include reference to the age of patients served and how the job functions are performed in relation to the customer/patient’s age/needs
