Network Engineer - Intermediate
GENERAL SUMMARY :
The Network Engineer is responsible for the implementation, support, and maintenance of current and future enterprise network systems. Equipment in scope includes routers, switches, wiring, servers, back-up systems, firewalls, load balancers, proxy servers, network management systems and diagnostic tools. Works on complex problems where analysis of situation requires in-depth evaluation of various technical and non-technical factors. Plans and implements large-scale systems projects. Provides work leadership and training to lower level network technicians. Requires strong technical skills and working knowledge of LAN/MAN/WAN systems, networks, and applications.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :

Develop written policies and procedures to support network operations, security and integrity. -
Maintain network documentation and create it when deficiencies are identified. -
Assist with the development of departmental, hospital, region, enterprise and project related budgets. -
Provide escalation support for major incidents and field technicians requests. -
Provide cross training to peers and lower level technicians. -
Participate as part of an on-call rotation for after-hours support. -
Submit change records for known projects with sufficient time to meet organizational goals. -
Implement required changes in the environment with minimum impact through proper test and implementation plans. -
Complete all incidents and requests in accordance with the organizational Service Level Agreements (SLA). -
Lead projects at an Enterprise level to meet business goals, support new technology implementations, and facilitate network tasks for acquisitions, divestitures and joint venture agreements. -
Leverage existing network management and monitoring solutions to proactively detect deficiencies and make improvement recommendations.
Qualifications:
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED :

Strong knowledge on at least one of the network core competencies: routing, switching or security -
Experience with various network troubleshooting tools such as packet analysis software, wireless spectrum analysis and web diagnostic tools. -
Ability to quickly learn systems with little or no documentation. Continuous learning of new systems, business processes and concepts are a must. -
Excellent oral and written communication skills required. -
Basic knowledge of Project Management terminology and methodology is required. -
Experience in Microsoft client/server environment is required
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:
- Cisco CCNA and CCNP certifications are preferred. Extensive and proven experience may be substituted for certification where appropriate.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED :

Five (5) years documented experience in a large-scale distributed network environment

High School Diploma or GED
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Mathematics
