Attendant -Nutritional Services - Celebration – Full Time
Florida Hospital seeks to hire a Attendant, Nutritional Services who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.

Facility Profile:
Established in 1908, Florida Hospital is one of the largest not-for-profit healthcare systems in the country, caring for more than a million patients each year. The 2,286-bed acute-care medical facility, comprised of nine hospitals, has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the best hospitals in the country for the past 10 years. It serves as a community hospital for Greater Orlando and as a major tertiary referral hospital for Central Florida and much of the Southeast, the Caribbean and Latin America.

Department Profile:
The Nutritional Services Department employs approximately 750 teammates at 7 hospital campuses and 5 off-campus retail locations. The 5 areas of service provided are:

  • Patient Services ─ Each hospital campus has a Patient Services Area (PSA) whose teams function to feed patients. To that end, the various PSA teams obtain patient orders for food selections, assemble thousands of patient trays each day, deliver meal trays to patients, deliver nourishments to refrigerators on the patient units, and interact with patients to provide a warm and healing experience.
  • Retail Services ─ Each hospital campus and several non-campus locations have retail venues which serve food to visitors and Florida Hospital employees. The menu is planned and prepared by professional culinary chefs, cooks, and teammates who ensure that the food is attractive, nourishing, and tasty. The retail spaces also offer respite for our guests in inviting environments in accordance with CREATION Health principles. And the Florida Hospital Catering teams provide options from snacks to banquets to meet the culinary needs of every event.
  • Food Production Center (FPC) ─ The 30,000 sq. ft. FPC is located on the Orlando campus and employs more than 75 team members in production, purchasing, and CBORD/IS support. As a centralized food manufacturing facility, the FPC receives, stocks, prepares, and delivers extensive quantities of food and supplies to all campuses and retail locations for patient and retail needs. The FPC uses a state-of-the-art "cook-chill" system designed to cook foods and chill them rapidly to ensure freshness and safety. The FPC also has a full-service bakery where everything from bread and rolls to individual desserts and decorated cakes are prepared by professional pastry chefs.
  • Clinical ─ Registered Dietitians (RDs) collaborate with doctors and nurses to facilitate healing our in-patients through nutritional assessment and intervention. RDs make recommendations for interventions, provide tube feeding management, and diet instruction of the physician-ordered diet. They follow up with patients on tolerance of their diet, and serve as a resource to our teammates who work in the Patient Services Areas.
  • Center for Nutritional Excellence ─ The clinical staff delivers outpatient education and individualized nutrition counseling. They also participate in CREATION Health activities for employees and the community, provide nutrition information for corporate events such as cooking demos and health fairs, and serve as nutrition experts on the FH Speakers Bureau.

Work Hours/Shifts:
Generally working 8 hour shifts between the hours of 6 am - 8 pm. Must be able to work weekends.

Job Summary:
The Attendant – Nutritional Services, under close supervision, serves patients of diverse ages, cultures, and backgrounds by taking menu orders in person and over the phone, utilizing a computerized diet office application and basic knowledge of therapeutic diets. Assembles tray and tray items and delivers food to patients. Builds and maintains strong relationships with Nursing and provides excellent customer service to patients and their families. Complies with Florida Hospital (FH), Nutritional Services (NS), and regulatory standards. Participates in department process improvement efforts. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English
  • Ability to communicate with customers, in person and over the phone, professionally and efficiently
  • Ability to handle customer interactions in a prompt, courteous, and helpful manner
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to use common software applications and hardware (e.g., iPad, ToughBook)
  • Two years of Customer service experience
  • Knowledge of therapeutic diets (Preferred)
  • Ability to effectively multi-task (Preferred)
  • Bilingual English/Spanish (Preferred)
  • Associate’s degree in management, liberal arts, food and nutrition or business (Preferred)

Job Responsibilities:
Demonstrates, through behavior, Florida Hospital’s core values of Integrity, Compassion, Balance, Excellence, Stewardship, and Teamwork
  • Utilizes the computerized diet office application to guide and input patient menu selections to comply with the prescribed diet order. Utilizes knowledge of therapeutic diets. Suggests complementary menu items, condiments, and add-ons to comply with the diet order and improve patient satisfaction. Verifies and reads back menu selections. Maintains a record of patient preferences and pertinent information in the notes section of the patient’s account.
  • Follows approved scripting during menu ordering and delivery. Utilizes bedside menu entry to record patient menu selections. Demonstrates competency in using an iPad for bedside menu entry process. Is flexible and adjusts to changes in the work environment, job duties, and policies & procedures. Maintains a positive attitude and willingly learns new skills and techniques. Demonstrates knowledge and competency with CBORD system (electronic diet office system), age specific considerations, patient diets, and allergies.
  • Assembles trays per therapeutic diet guidelines and the established presentation standards. Ensures all patient food deliveries and retrievals are consistent with established timeframes, per department standard; checks trays for accuracy before delivery to patient. May assist with food prep and assembly as needed.
  • Builds and maintains positive relationships between Nursing and the Nutritional Services Department. Maintains a positive, friendly, and courteous demeanor. Refers to standard operating procedure to escalate appropriate concerns to a supervisor, manager, or Registered Dietitian. Communicates effectively. Speaks clearly and professionally. Uses correct grammar.
  • Provides quality and professional customer service. Actively listens to the customer and strives to ensure excellent patient satisfaction. Responds to patient and family food service concerns. Implements service recovery.
  • Consistently obtains 2 patient identifiers; follows HIPAA regulations. Remains up to date on FH/NS policies and SOPs. Participates in staff meetings and completes all mandatory education. Wears approved uniform and maintains a professional appearance, including FH ID badge and hair maintained per FH standard in patient areas. Maintains a positive attitude to new ideas and concepts within the department.
  • Ensures compliance in that work area/station is clean/orderly, and neat/well organized; wears hairnet / beard cover in production/prep areas and maintains hand hygiene standards. Understands and complies with HACCP, FDA Food Code, and in-house safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • Handles inventory, supplies and equipment properly and acts to reduce waste. Is responsible for the iPad, Spectra link phones and other resources. Utilizes time well to meet service and production standards.
  • Participates in department PI projects. Collects data, provides feedback for processes and areas in need of improvement, and implements recommendations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
